Having Trouble Pressing On?
Hope for the Heavy Heart: For the War-Weary and the Heaven-Bent* is a collection of insights written originally while Ellen lived in an institution for her paraplegia. Following a lengthy, undiagnosed, severe illness, she became paralyzed from the waist down, currently getting around in a wheelchair. Her book gives reasons why we should all carry on even in the face of seemingly near-impossible situations.
Just over three years following her catastrophic injury, she was dubbed, "Ellen of Joy" by a friend.
Eventually thankful for her paralysis, Ellen credits her physical disability with her getting the proper treatment for the debilitating condition that got her in the chair in the first place. The paralysis also taught her that just as we had no say in how we came into the world, we need to have no say in how we leave it, that our death is a most sacred passage that needs to be left in hands of God: also the major premise of the book.
