Having Trouble Pressing On?
Hope for the Heavy Heart: For the War-Weary and the Heaven-Bent* is a collection of insights written originally while Ellen lived in an institution for her paraplegia. She got in the wheelchair despite extreme and unheeded efforts to get help during a lengthy, undiagnosed, untreated, severe illness of the mind—major depression. Ellen put this book together in order to give herself reasons why she should carry on and not give up now that she lived in an institution and was permanently disabled. It can help you move forward, as it did her.
Finding her way out of the institution in time, Ellen would eventually be dubbed, "Ellen of Joy" by a friend. The paralysis would teach her that just as we had no say in how we came into the world, we need to have no say in how we leave it, that our death is a most sacred passage that needs to be left in hands of God: also the major premise of the book.
*A REVISED EDITION of the prose and new all-poetry book are currently in the works.
